Speech curates major exhibition at the South Bank.

Speech is the first musician to be asked to curate the prestigious Koestler Trust exhibition showing until December 1 2013 at the Spirit Level Gallery on the South Bank.

Entitled "The Strength and Vulnerability Bunker" Speech has selected artworks from more than 7000 entries by the UK's incarcerated population and has conceptualised a unique space in which to display them.

She says “I'm fascinated by the thought that there are secret bunkers around the world that can store art if there is a nuclear war, to preserve human identity. I'm creating a bunker to preserve art by people who would normally be left outside. There is a duality between the bunker and the closed environments that most of this art comes from. The bunker has three zones, and moving through them I hope visitors will experience the art in three stages: strength, vulnerability and a binding or connection of the two."

Clash reviewed Speech's last London show at Dalston Land of Kings like this….

"Thankfully we arrive early because the space is soon maxed out. A crafty clamber onto a window ledge and we can actually see Ms Debelle who, frankly, kills it. She blends a dizzying range of styles into the live set, from a funk-inspired, bass-led ‘Live for the Message’ to the almost Rage Against the Machine guitar riffs on ‘Elephant in the Living Room’, which she dedicates to Tupac. Telling a devoted crowd, “There ain’t no amateurs on this stage right now, these are real fucking musicians,” she delivers a blinding performance and cements her position as the Queen of UK rap."
